- We fully recommend this kit if your processor is currently running at 2.4GHz or less (note that the Optiplex GX280 system only supports Pentium 4 CPUs). If you are not sure what speed you currently have in your setup, simply contact us or chat with us and supply the seven-digit service tag ID (usually located on the back of your computer). With this number in hand, we'll be able to pull up your system's information and determine what processor you currently have (and give you a recommendation based on that).
While some say that the Optiplex GX280 systems can support CPU speeds of up to 3.8GHz, our testing has shown mixed results with compatibility at that speed so we have chosen to go with the fastest CPU speed that is compatible across all of the Optiplex GX280 types. In addition, it is often necessary to upgrade/replace the computer's power supply when going to a CPU faster than 3.2GHz which is another reason we stayed with the 3.2GHz CPU/processor.
